Quick capsule on why does the sky look blue???. Watch the short, then use the trivia to check whether the core idea is clear.

Hello young astronomers! Renu here. Hum roz subah aakash ko dekhte hain aur ek simple sawal humare dimaag mein aata hai—Why does the sky look blue? Aaj hum is question ke piche chipi beautiful optical physics ko samjhenge.

Kuch log sochte hain ki sky blue dikhta hai kyunki oceans blue hain aur unka reflection hawa mein padta hai. Par dosto, physics mein iska reason bilkul alag hai! Is phenomenon ka name hai Rayleigh Scattering. Let's study how sunlight behaves when it hits Earth's atmospheric gases.

Sunlight: The Seven-Color Spectrum

Sunlight hume white/yellow dikhti hai, par actual mein yeh **VIBGYOR (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red)** ke seven colors ka spectrum hai. Har color ki apni ek wavelength hoti hai. Red light ki wavelength sabse long hoti hai, aur Blue/Violet light ki wavelength sabse short aur choti hoti hai.

The Rayleigh Scattering Effect

Jab sunlight Earth's atmosphere mein enter karti hai, toh hawa mein present tiny gas molecules (like Nitrogen and Oxygen) se takrati hai. Gas molecules chote particle sizes ke hote hain, isliye yeh short wavelengths wali Blue light ko charo taraf scatter (bikhra) kar dete hain!

Red light bina scatter hue seedhe nikal jaati hai kyunki uski wavelength long hoti hai, jabki blue light poore sky mein scatter ho jaati hai. Yahi scattered blue light jab humari aakho mein padti hai, toh aakash blue dikhta hai!

⚡ Exam Corner (Physics)

Remember for Physics exams: Scattering intensity is inversely proportional to the fourth power of wavelength ($I \propto 1/\lambda^4$). Since blue has a short wavelength, it scatters about 10 times more intensely than red wavelengths!
